1868 Koehken and Grimm Tracker Pipe Organ
One of the seven remaining instruments manufactured by the German immigrant brothers, who settled and distinguished themselves as artisans in Cincinnati, Ohio in the mid-nineteenth century. This cherished organ had been spared the wreckage of downtown Cincinnati’s urban renewal of the 1960’s. Having served the First United Church for a century, the prized instrument was dismantled and preserved by Mr. Alan Laufman of the National Organ Clearinghouse in New Hampshire.
After lengthy deliberation, our Parish Vestry (i.e. Governing Board) resolved to follow the recommendation of our worship Committee in 1979 to embark upon a campaign to raise $17,641.00 for the purchase, restoration, and transport of this historic instrument. Numerous persons in our congregation worked voluntarily during the two weeks prior to Easter Sunday, 1980, to clean and assemble the 1,000 components of this historic Tracker Pipe Organ.
